The Circuit of the Four Lagoons is located in the province of Acomayo, in the district of Pomacanchi are these famous lagoons, at a distance of 107 km from the city of Cusco (2 hours by car), has created a tourist circuit that allows you to appreciate the four lakes, this initiative is thanks to the joint efforts of about 40 communities in the area, which offer the service of guidance, lodging and food.

Detailed Program

We will pass by your hotel and then go to the south of Cusco, in a tourist bus, to the village of Tungasuka and ascend to the plateau where the lagoons are continuously starting with the lagoon of Pampamarka, for bird watching we will go to the lagoon Asnaqocha, its waters contain abundant minerals that attract a variety of migratory birds, Next is the Acopia lagoon and the town of the same name, where Valeriana Huillca lives, famous for her inspiration of the popular huayno “Valicha”, then we will take a walk through the Pomacanchi lagoon, an immense lagoon of clear waters and abundant fish fauna such as trout and silverside, at the end we will enjoy the local cuisine based on trout and silverside.

After a short rest we will go to Sangarara, land of emancipation deeds, during the revolution of Tupac Amaru II, Micaela Bastidas, Tomasa Tito Condemayta and many other martyrs, considered as the first cry of the Spanish-American independence. At the end we will return to Cusco by the Chuquicahuana bridge.

To reserve the tour you must make a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total tour price per person. Once you arrive in Cusco – Peru you must pay the final balance in our office before starting the tour. We accept both dollars or soles and cash only. Information about 4 lagoons:

Pampamarca or Tungasuca Lagoon.

The fourth lagoon is the highest of the circuit (3 750 masl.), called Tungasuca or Pampamarca and is home to a great variety of wildlife such as parihuanas and ducks, due to the abundance of cattails that surround it. Sport fishing is especially popular in Pampamarca. This is a freshwater lagoon.

Asnaqocha Lagoon

The third is the Asnaqocha Lagoon (meaning smelly lagoon) which concentrates abundant algae that, when exposed to the sun’s rays, produce a strong odor.

The Acopia Lagoon

The second is a small lagoon called Acopia, located in the town of the same name, Acopia lagoon is very populated with birds, here you will see pelicans and wild ducks. In Acopia you can meet the woman who inspired the most famous huayno of Cusco Valicha, Valeriana Huillca Condori (85 years old) inspired the composer Miguel Angel Hurtado to write this beautiful melody.

The Pomacanchi Lagoon

The first lagoon called Pomacanchi, is located in the upper part of the Vilcanota River. The Pomacanchi lagoon has a maximum depth of 140 meters; around it there are abundant natural grasses: medicinal species, totora, mirmi, etc. and fish: trout, silversides, huitas, ccarachis, ch’iñis and carps. In the Pomacanchi lagoon, the municipality has built a tourist camp of totora reed huts, a shed to eat and a grill to prepare trout, which in this area there are up to 300 fishermen associated, here you can ride in pedal boats accompanied by a guide.
